FAQs

John Holm & Son Septic Services

  • How often do I need to pump my septic tank?

Our experts advise that septic tanks should be pumped every two to three years. The exact frequency depends on your tank size and household size, but we strongly recommend not exceeding three years between pumpings to maintain optimal system performance.
  • Do I need to clean my septic tank filter?

For septic tanks equipped with an effluent filter, we recommend cleaning it every three to four months. Our septic pumping service includes filter cleaning, but we also offer this as a separate service if needed.
  • Should I add any type of septic tank treatment to my system between pumpings?

We don't recommend adding any treatment products to your septic system. Your system naturally utilizes biological processes to function efficiently, so there's no need for additional treatments between regular pumpings.
  • How do I know if I have a problem with my system?

Regular septic tank pumping prevents many issues. However, signs of potential problems include slow draining, complete blockages, or gurgling noises from plumbing fixtures. If you notice these symptoms, please contact us for guidance and information about our septic tank cleaning services.
  • I have an unpleasant odor in my house. Is it my septic system?

While unpleasant odors are often attributed to septic systems, there can be other causes. Check for dry drain traps in infrequently used areas like slop sinks. Also, ensure that any water treatment systems in your home are functioning correctly. If the issue persists, our team can help investigate the source.
